Alteryx
London (EMEA)
Sales Engineer × 5 (EMEA)
Five Sales Engineers placed across Alteryx's EMEA team over a two-year period — a sustained hiring partnership that helped build out their European pre-sales function as the company scaled toward a $4.4B take-private.
The Challenge
Why this brief was hard
Alteryx is one of the defining platforms in enterprise data analytics — a drag-and-drop analytics environment used by organisations like Coca-Cola, Pfizer, and Dell to operationalise data at scale. Building a Sales Engineering team in EMEA to support that customer base is a serious undertaking. The role demands genuine technical depth: Alteryx SEs need to architect solutions using the full platform, write Python and SQL, and handle complex technical evaluations involving line-of-business stakeholders, C-suite executives, and IT simultaneously. Finding five people who could do all of that, and do it in EMEA — where the talent pool for analytics pre-sales is thinner than in the US, right-to-work requirements narrow the field further, and enterprise buying cycles move at their own pace — required consistency over a multi-year window, not a quick batch of CVs.
Our Approach
How we tackled it
Ikuto worked with Alteryx across 2022 and into 2024, building a deep understanding of what the team was looking for at each stage of growth. Rather than treating each hire as a standalone brief, we developed a running picture of the EMEA SE profile — the technical bar, the communication style, the cultural fit with a team that was both highly collaborative and individually accountable. Each candidate was video screened before presentation, with particular focus on how they handled complex, multi-stakeholder technical scenarios. We also paid close attention to market timing: 2022 was a competitive hiring environment; 2023 saw a recalibration across enterprise tech. We stayed active across both conditions.
The Outcome
What we delivered
Five Sales Engineers placed across the EMEA team between 2022 and 2024. The partnership held across multiple hiring cycles, different team structures, and shifting market conditions. In March 2024, Alteryx was taken private by Clearlake Capital and Insight Partners in a $4.4B transaction — the EMEA revenue team, which the Sales Engineers supported directly, was a material part of the business they were acquiring.
“Ikuto understood the brief at a level that went beyond the job spec. They knew the kind of person who would succeed in our team — technically credible, client-confident, and genuinely motivated by the complexity of what we were building. Across multiple hires, the quality was consistent.”
